I recently listened to the audio-book: Women, Food and God by Geneen Roth. In her book Geneen speaks candidly about her struggle with weight gain and weight loss until finally after a surrendering process, she begins to realize that spirituality can be found on her plate.

She spoke on how she received death looks when at her retreats she would ask the women to put down their forks and ask themselves if they were still hungry. Geneen presents the idea that if eating is ones only sense of pleasure and love, no medical prognosis of heart disease, joint replacements, or diabetes can stop the obsession.

She gives a few simple “guidelines” to follow, such as: eating only when hungry, eating sitting down, eating what your body wants, eating free from distraction, and tasting each bite of food. Each meal can become a meditation of our senses.

Interested in exploring further?

If so, I have developed some questions for you to ponder:

  • Have you ever eaten a whole plate of food without realizing it?
  • How many meals do I eat at the fridge, standing up, or in the car?
  • What would happen if I did not have any “forbidden foods”?
  • How can I cope with my uncomfortable feelings without eating?
  • What would happen if I felt my uncomfortable feelings without eating?
  • What if my worth is not based on a number on the scale?
  • How can I release old belief patterns about myself that are untrue?
  • How can I become loyal to my true self?
  • What would happen if I stopped to taste my food?

I would love to hear your comments!

Much love,

Christina
